Bonn Climate Change Conference - June 2014
The Bonn Climate Change Conference of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) continued on Thursday, 5 June. In the morning, the first meeting of the contact group under the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP) convened. The ADP Co-Chairs outlined the organization of work for the contact group and presented a draft decision text on communication of intended nationally determined contributions of parties in the context of the 2015 agreement for consideration by delegates.
A high-level ministerial roundtable on increased ambition of Kyoto Protocol commitments took place throughout the day, providing ministers with the chance to take stock of the implementation of the second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol and address ways to increase ambition.
The first session of the Second Dialogue on Convention Article 6 (education, training and public awareness) and a workshop on the nationally appropriate mitigation actions (NAMA) work programme also took place. The Dialogue event focused on public participation, addressing good practices and lessons learned in fostering public participation and the value of public participation in climate change policy decision-making and action. The NAMA workshop was structured around the three focal areas of the work programme to further the understanding of the diversity of NAMAs: information on technical issues; support for preparing and implementing NAMAs; and matching NAMAs with support under the registry. A number of informal consultations under the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) and the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) also took place.
