ICRAF Annual Report Welcomes a 20-Year Strategy for Agroforestry

The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) released its 2012-2013 annual report welcoming the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) Consortium Research Program 6 'Forests, Trees and Agroforestry' (CRP6), and the associated collaboration with the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR).

The report focuses on the adoption of the Strategy of the World Agroforestry Centre 2013-2022 and its operational goals: enhancing science quality, increasing operational efficiency, building and maintaining strong partnerships, accelerating the use and impact of ICRAF research, and greater cohesion, interdependence and alignment. The Strategy also includes strategic goals on building livelihoods, improving landscapes and their sustainability, and scaling up the impacts of agro-forestry.

In addition to information on the new Strategy, the annual report provides details on project implementation, including projects to address land degradation surrounding Lake Tanganyika in East Africa, improve on-farm productivity in Indonesia, increase resilience to climate change through agroforestry in Kenya, and enhance carbon sequestration through land management practices in Peru.

Other issues highlighted in the annual report include climate finance for agriculture and livelihoods, the links among trees, biodiversity and health, the connection of science and traditional knowledge, water harvesting, timber markets between China and Africa, and monitoring systems to assess and report on the impacts of research.
