El Centro Internacional de la Papa (CIP)
está buscando un profesional con formación en Economía / Economía Agrícola, con habilidades y experiencia en adopción de tecnología, análisis de sistemas de producción y evaluación de impacto. el candidato debe ser competente en el uso de investigación para el desarrollo en un entorno de cooperación internacional.



El candidato que asuma esta posición deberá contar con un doctorado en Economía / Economía agrícola; debe ser un experto investigador e innovador con experiencia mínima de 5 años de diseño e implementación de proyectos. Ademas debe tener publicaciones internacionales en su haber.



La posición tiene base en Nairobi, Kenya or Kampala, Uganda.

POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Agricultural Economist

The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking an economist/agricultural economist with skills and experience in technology adoption studies, economic analysis of production systems and impact assessment. The candidate should be committed to using research for development in a complex cooperative environment of research and development partners.

The Center: CIP is a not-for-profit international agricultural research organization with a global mandate to conduct research on potatoes and sweetpotatoes, sustainable management of natural resources and urban agriculture. CIP’s vision is to contribute from its areas of expertise to the fulfillment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), in particular those goals that relate to poverty, hunger, child and maternal mortality, and sustainable development in rural and urban systems. CIP has its headquarters in Lima, Peru with staff and activities in locations across Africa, Asia and Latin America. CIP is a member of the Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research, a network of 15 research centers mostly located in the developing world and supported by more than 60 donor members.

The Division: CIP has over 30 years of experience producing research outputs and has generated extensive impact assessment research that documents the widespread impact of our research. However, our new vision commits us to further enhance this impact through implementation of a pro-poor research and development cycle. The Division serves as a compass for the program, conducting research to define strategic directions, monitor our progress and increase our impact in each of our regional settings. It will: develop improved methods for impact targeting and needs/opportunities assessment; adopt and validate a broader conceptual framework for promoting agricultural innovation and assessing impact; identify impact indicators and methodologies for measuring and monitoring these indicators; and develop strategies and tactics to add value to CIP"s commodity research. It will assist the center position itself to participate in national, regional and international innovation systems.

The successful candidate will:

• have a PhD in Economics or Agricultural Economics;
• be an accomplished and innovative researcher with at least five years research experience in the design and implementation of baseline surveys, sampling design, adoption studies, impact evaluation, economic analysis of production systems and policy related economic research;
• possess proven skills in applying econometric and quantitative approaches;
• have demonstrated success in working with multi-disciplinary teams and partnerships in collaborative proposal writing and research implementation;
• have a strong international publication record.

Conditions: The employment contract will be for an initial three-year term with the possibility of renewal. The position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya or Kampala, Uganda. CIP offers a range of benefits for this position in addition to exoneration from local income
tax. The candidate will be able to spend a portion of his/her time on developing and implementing original social science research studies that are relevant to CIP’s interests in collaboration with partners.
