Hewlett/IATRC Capacity Building Program in Agricultural Trade Policy, 2006–2007

Program Description

The International Agricultural Trade Research Consortium (IATRC) has received a grant from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation to sponsor participation of a select group of developing country researchers in our activities. The purpose of the program is to provide researchers in government and academia, who are concerned with agricultural trade and policy, an opportunity to increase their analytical capacity and broaden their research networks. In this three-year program, sponsored researchers will remain in their home institutions, and will receive funding to participate in IATRC"s two meetings per year. Each sponsored researcher will be mentored by a member of the IATRC and will engage in a collaborative research program. The research program will address various issues concerned with agricultural policy and trade in developing countries, with the goal of assisting these countries in their efforts to develop their agricultural sectors to grow, diversify, and become more competitive in world markets.

The IATRC is a network of over 180 agricultural trade economists from universities, government, international agencies and private industry whose mission is to increase the quality and relevance of research in issues concerning agricultural trade and policy. Our website, www.iatrcweb.org, contains detailed information on our activities, members, and the topics and location of our conferences.

Travel costs will be paid for sponsored researchers to attend IATRC meetings over a three‑year period. Sponsored researchers will also receive a small allowance for research expenses. No honorarium or stipends will be paid.
