Francisco Rivas, Costa Rican Historian located in Panama. During the last 15 years has collaborated in the establishment of the three NGOs: ACEPESA (Costa Rica), APROSAC and APRONAD (Panama). At the present time he is the Executive Director for APRONAD. In the last 5 years his work has focused in providing assistance to small businesses, communities, government institutions and agencies for international cooperation, for the design and implementation of projects related to the Sustainable Management of Solid Waste, Ecotourism, Environmental Communication and institutional strengthening. In 2006 and 2007 he carried out a series of consultations for the National Counsel of Sustainable Development (CONADES) in Panama, the Ministry of Health of Panama. Coauthor, with Jorge Arroyo e Inge Ladinois: Solid Waste management in Latin America. The role of Micro- and Small enterprises and Cooperatives (Urban Waste Series 5, Ediciones Serral, Perú, 1998, 80 p). Author of the Diagnostic study of the Community Disposition to Sustainable Development and Solid Waste in the Islands of Colon, Carenero and Bastimentos. District of Bocas del Toro, Province of Bocas del Toro. Panama (CONADES, 2006), and, Socioeconomic Evaluation for the Design and Implementation of the National Implementation Plan (PNI), of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), Panama 2007.
