La Universidad Internacional de Dresden (DIU) y la Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja, ofrecen el curso de entrenamiento interdisciplinario en Loja, Ecuador: “Métodos de evaluación y planificación integradores para uso sustentable del suelo en regiones húmedas y semiáridas”. El curso está orientado a jóvenes científicos de universidades Latinoamericanas, y está programado del 12 de septiembre hasta el 5 de octubre del 2006, en la Ciudad de Loja, Ecuador


La fecha límite para presentación de candidaturas es el 21 de junio del 2006.

Latin American Summer School (Advanced Scientific Training) 2006 in Loja / Ecuador


“INTEGRATIVE ASSESSMENT AND PLANNING METHODS FOR A SUSTAINABLE LAND-USE IN HUMID AND SEMIARID REGIONS”

The Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja and the Dresden International University offer an interdisciplinary summer school in Loja , Ecuador for young scientists from universities of Latin America . The topic of the course focus on integrative assessment and planning methods for a sustainable land-use in humid and semiarid regions. The summer school will take place from September 12 until October 5 2006 in Loja , Ecuador . The summer school is supported by the Robert Bosch Foundation/ Germany , the Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja/ Ecuador and the Dresden International University / Dresden and the Research Unit 402 of the German Research Foundation DFG. The teaching staff consists of internationally recognized professors from several universities in Germany covering a broad scope of disciplines.


The aim of the summer school is to promote scientific training and capacity building for agricultural and forest sciences in Latin America . The disciplines involved comprise natural resources and potentials, land-use and pasture management, and socio-economics, ethno-ecology and planning. The course addresses on methods and research approaches by giving lectures on the specific topics, field surveys, assessments, and interactive seminars. The participants will be trained in innovative methods in distant education and should disseminate the results to their home universities.


The Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja and the Dresden International University award up to 20 applicants with a fellowship. This covers the stay in Loja and part of the travel costs, while the sending university is requested to pay for 2/3 of the flight costs. Prerequisite for an application is a PhD / above-average Master degree in the disciplines involved and appropriate scientific publications. The application should include a CV, approved credentials and a short description of the expectations of the participant upon the course for him/her and his/her home institution and for his/her future career. Applicants should be sent until June 1 2006.
