20.June.2007

The Mountain Forum was established in 1995 through the international collaboration of a wide range of stakeholders concerned with equitable and ecologically sustainable mountain development. Mountain Forum supports this global mountain community by being an information clearinghouse and managing mountain knowledge, by providing platforms for dialogue among its global membership of individuals and organizations, and by facilitating advocacy on mountain issues.

To achieve these objectives, the Mountain Forum uses a variety of electronic and traditional communication tools. These are member-driven, and include an online library and calendar, a membership directory, an e-conference platform, and several e-mail discussion lists. It also publishes a biannual Bulletin featuring news and articles from the membership.

The Mountain Forum is a "network of networks": a global grouping of independent regional nodes on five continents working closely with the Mountain Forum Secretariat (MFS) as well as inter-governmental organizations, stakeholder groups, and individuals around the world. The MFS supports the work of the regional nodes by maintaining the global-level services mentioned above, and by helping to coordinate and manage initiatives and relationships around the world.

In view of strengthening the interaction with the different stakeholders and preparing a new five-year Strategy, the board of the Mountain Forum is looking for a dynamic Executive Secretary.

As Executive Secretary of Mountain Forum, you are a capable fundraiser, an experienced project manager, and a collaborative team leader. You have worked internationally with diverse groups of people. You are a strategic visionary, and an articulate communicator who will inspire others to recognize the key values and importance of mountain environments and the people who live in them. You have a clear understanding of the potential of ICT to facilitate the exchange of knowledge for sustainable development.

You will also liaise closely with the regional nodes to ensure effective management of their operations.

You will provide clear vision for Mountain Forum, build strategic relationships with the broader global mountain community, make Mountain Forum a leader in information and knowledge management, and improve the facilitation of dialogue and advocacy.
