El Centro Internacional de la Papa (CIP) está en la búsqueda de un especialista en evaluación y análisis de impactos como Coordinadorr una Unidad de Investigación que promueva la institucionalización de los métodos participativos y la documentación de los resultados e impactos de los procesos de influencia política.

El contrato será inicialmente por 3 años con posibilidad de renovación. La posición tendrá sede en La Paz, Bolivia. Specialist in evaluation and impact assessment




The International Potato Center is seeking a specialist in evaluation and impact assessment to coordinate a Research Unit (RU) promoting the institutionalization of participatory methods and documenting the outcomes and impacts of that process to influence policy. The candidate should be committed to using research for development in a complex cooperative environment of research and development partners. CIP seeks diversity and gender balance in its staff. The Context: CIP is a not-for-profit international agricultural research organization with a global mandate to conduct research on potatoes and sweetpotatoes, sustainable management of natural resources and urban agriculture and is a member of the Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research, a network of 15 research centers mostly located in the developing world and supported by more than 60 donor members. CIP and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT, also a member of the CGIAR) have overall responsibility for the scientific coordination of a four year project which will promote and learn lessons from participatory research methods that can enhance impacts for and with the poor in agricultural innovation systems in Bolivia , Peru , Ecuador and Colombia . The project will be organized by a number of thematic teams which include participatory evaluation and monitoring, value chains, communication and policy. It will be implemented with a range of national partners in the region, with a particular focus on Bolivia where a Science and Technology Policy Unit for Agriculture will be institutionalized.


The position: CIP seeks an accomplished specialist in evaluation and impact assessment as Coordinator of the Research Unit in the project. The Coordinator will have primary responsibility for providing scientific direction in the Unit and across the project, specific responsibilities include:


Documenting the process of institutionalizing a set of methodologies with a wide range of partners


Supporting the systematic measurement of the outcomes and impacts of this process on livelihoods and poverty to generate credible scientific evidence to influence policy


Promoting linkages to influence policy


Leading the preparation of scientific articles and other information outputs that contribute to the promotion of participatory research methods and approaches as international public goods


The RU Coordinator will work closely with the Project Coordinator to ensure timely delivery of research outputs and reporting. The position is a joint appointment of CIP with CIAT with responsibilities for scientific coordination of the support from both the centers. The position reports to the leader of CIP"s Impact Enhancement Division. It will be based in Bolivia with frequent international travel in the Andean region, and potentially elsewhere.


The successful candidate will:



  • be an accomplished and innovative researcher with at least five years of strong research experience in evaluation and impact assessment;

  • have a PhD in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Sociology, Anthropology or other relevant Social Science discipline

  • have demonstrated success in working with multi-disciplinary teams and partnerships

  • have a strong international publication record

  • be fluent in Spanish and English


Conditions: The employment contract will be for an initial three-year term with the possibility of renewal. The position will be based in La Paz , Bolivia . CIP offers a range of benefits for this position in addition to exoneration from local income tax.
