Community-based Forest Ecotourism: A viable strategy for community forestry development and conservation?

Author:

This study seeks to answer the following questions:
• Can ecotourism be a viable strategy to benefit local forest-reliant communities and bring an incentive for forest conservation?
• Can ecotourism be integrated into the logic and framework of sustainable development? What are the conditions underlying its potential success or failure?
• Are there common elements to current forest community-based ecotourist projects underlying their success or failure?
To this end, secondary data analysis and case study analysis have been carried out in order to extrapolate the common elements underlying the success or failure of current community-based forest ecotourism projects. This could be used as the foundation of a model for future sustainable applications.
