Facing global warming together: Mountaineers rope up at COP21

December 11th, 2015 in Le Bourget, Paris,  International Mountain Day.

At the invitation of the International Climbing and Mountainering Federation, mountaineers from all over the world are standing up for COP21.

Leaders and representatives from national and international NGOs and institutions shall rope up together at COP21 for the International Mountain Day. They aim to demonstrate the strength of their determination to combat global 

warming.

Mountains are among the regions currently suffering the most. To preserve these wild areas, which host 30% of the world’s population and 50% of water consumed, we need to adapt our ways of life quickly and profoundly.

To reveal their dedication and inspire politicians, these institutions are inviting everyone at COP21 to rope up with them. They welcome citizens, mountain lovers, journalists, and politicians in Le Bourget at stand A23, Call from the Mountains, at 11.30 am on Friday December 11th.

Roping up is standard practice in mountainering. It’s the best way to reach a summit, by facing difficulties and dangers together. This rope embodies the need for emergency action. Mountaineers will support strong political 

decisions. No one can face the challenges of global warming without solidarity.

On the frontline of the global warming challenge, mountains need collective ingenuity, hope, and strong commitment to build a sustainable future.

This is the inspiring message mountaineers wish to send to COP21 leaders.

Mountains are feeling blue. Keep them white.
