FAO run International online conference on climate change mitigation and the forest sector

The International online conference ‘Economics of Climate Change Mitigation Options in the Forest Sector’ organized by the FAO Forestry Department started today. It will run in the next three weeks in February with six sessions covering afforestation and reforestation, reducing deforestation and degradation, changing forest management practices, wood energy, green building, and sustainable packaging. With 50 technical presentations including case studies from 25 countries, combined with panel and plenary discussions, the conference is expected to provide an excellent platform for sharing of experiences from around the world. 

Dr. Eva Muller, Director of FAO’s Forest Economics, Policy and Products Division delivered the opening remarks. Dr. Cornelis van Kooten, Professor of Economics, University of Victoria, Canada delivered the keynote and contributed to both the panel and plenary discussions along with eight other presenters in today’s session (Afforestation and Reforestation). The conference has attracted over 1,600 registrants from 127 countries.
