GMBA science officer position open- applications until Sept. 5th

The Global Mountain Biodiversity Assessment (GMBA) International Project Office is filling the position of a Science Officer (60-80%) located at the Institute of Plant Sciences, University of Bern (Switzerland).
GMBA is a platform for international mountain biodiversity research. Its primary objective is to improve our understanding of mountain biodiversity under global change, and to inform strategies for sustainable mountain development. GMBA serves the biodiversity community by supporting and facilitating international cooperation and collaboration, by providing a mountain portal and mobilising mountain biodiversity data for open access, and by publishing synthesis publications on mountain biodiversity.
Tasks and responsibilities:
The Science officer will run the International Project Office in Bern, Switzerland, in collaboration with the Executive Director, the chair and the Steering Committee of GMBA, the Map of Life Mountain portal team at Yale University, experts and partners of the GMBA network and the Future Earth Secretariat. Specific tasks and responsibilities include:
- GMBA network communication: management and regularly updates of the GMBA webpage and e-newsletter of GMBA, management of expert database of GMBA
- networking with other organisations and linking with relevant experts for different mountain biodiversity themes,
- organisation of workshops and conferences, meeting attendance and presentations of GMBA activities
- writing and editing of synthesis publications, evaluation of abstracts and organisation of peer-review of scientific contributions, funding proposals and reports to funding agencies
Requirements:
- PhD in natural sciences such as biology, geography or environmental sciences, preferably with experience in biodiversity and/or mountain ecosystems research, and/or science-policy interfaces.
- scientific publications in refereed journals, excellence in report writing and editing, experience in international scientific collaboration
- willigness to travel internationally (4-6 times a year) and to work efficiently in an international context:
- outstanding social skills and capability to interact with the international science community;
- excellent written and spoken fluency in English at the science level;
- stress-resistant and able to work effectively under time constraints;
