International Conferencia "Green India: Strategic knowledge for combating climatic change: Prospects & challenges (GISKCCC2013)"

An International Conference on “Green India: Strategic knowledge for combating climate change: Prospects & challenges” (GISKCCC2013) will be held at the Department of Ecology & Environmental Sciences, Pondicherry University, Pondicherry, India during December 5-7th , 2013, to explore technical, environmental, economic, financial and institutional challenges and opportunities for realizing climate- smart development at both International and national levels.

Climate change is severely and rapidly impacting species, ecosystems and humans around the globe making Climate change as the greatest challenge to humanity -a "perfect storm" that will lead to unprecedented social and ecological impacts unless addressed in a comprehensive, serious manner. There is a growing recognition that traditional, "business-as-usual" approaches to mitigation and adaptation are insufficient to address the breadth, scale and complexity of challenges associated with climate change. It is now well recognized that the time available to avoid the irreversible impacts of climate change or to evolve mitigation and adaptation strategies is limited.

This trans-disciplinary conference will bring the scientists, engineers, economists, scholars, stake holders and students from Universities and research institutions on a common platform for active participation and exchange of scientific findings, ideas, discussions, case studies, experiences, recommendations for streamlining the policies/action plan on climate change and sustainability.
The following are the sub-themes of the conference:

1. Climate change adaptation, mitigation and resilience
2. Climate change, biodiversity and ecosystem services
3. Climate change and sustainability metrics
4. Carbon sequestration and Economics of climate change
5. Climate change law, policy, planning and transformative governance

Paper presentation

Unpublished research papers are to be submitted to GISKCCC2013 conference. Submitted papers will be reviewed by the technical conference committee.

The abstracts should not exceed 250 words and should be based on the sub-themes or related issues. The abstracts and full papers may be sent electronically to giskccc2013@pondiuni.edu.in with a cc to the Convenor and organizing secretary. It is proposed to bring out an edited volume of selected papers as proceedings of the conference.

Both the abstract and full paper should be word processed using Ms-Word, Times New Roman, font 12 with double line spacing. The abstract should be followed by five key words. The full paper should not be more than 15 pages including the title, main text, tables, Figures, photographs and references. The references should adopt the APA style (refer http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/07/). The first page should be used to indicate the title, name(s) of the author(s), e-mail address and telephone (GSM) number.

• Notification of Acceptance: September 30, 2013.
• Submission of full paper: November 5, 2013.
• Date of conference: 5th to 7th of December, 2013.
