Climate Heroes: Stories of Change

Wednesday, 10 September, 2014 - 15:06

As part of its Momentum for Change initiative, the UNFCCC Secretariat will launch a documentary on climate action during Climate Week NYC, scheduled for 22-28 September 2014, in support of the UN Secretary-General's Climate Summit. The documentary, featuring nine initiatives from around the world, aims to demonstrate how climate action is generating jobs and improving lives.

The documentary, titled 'Climate Heroes: Stories of Change,' is narrated by Ian Somerhalder, UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Goodwill Ambassador, actor and environmentalist. Initiatives featured will include: 'Pollinate Energy,' which trains local community members in India to install solar lighting systems; '1 Million Women,' which aims to get one million women to pledge to take steps to save energy, reduce waste, cut pollution and lead change in Australia; and 'EcoCasa,' which over its first seven years will help build 27,600 low-carbon houses and finance 1,700 'green' mortgages in Mexico. The trailer of the documentary was launched on 3 September and is available via the UNFCCC website.

Momentum for Change, led by the UNFCCC Secretariat, gives visibility to activities underway globally that are moving the world toward a climate-resilient and low-carbon future. It recognizes innovative, transformative, scalable and replicable solutions addressing both climate change and broader economic, social and environmental challenges.
